NEWS RELEASE 05/08/2019:

The organisers of the annual Eccleshall Show are busy putting the finishing touches to their preparations for the 72st show which takes place on Saturday 31st August at Sugnall Parks just a couple of miles from Eccleshall town.

The feature event in the main ring is being staged by The Company of Horsemen whose daring tricks and displays of Wild West and Cossack riding will be thrilling to watch.  Also in the main ring the hugely popular Elaine Hill returns with hersheepdogs demonstrating their skill at herding ducks and geese.  Also in the main ring there will be the Pet Dog Agility competition and Childrens Sports.

The massive Craft and Horticulture marquee will host well over 130 classes for both adults and children.   From vegetable, fruit and flower growing, to cookery, wine making, floral art, handicrafts and photography there is something for everyone to enter, including a men only class for a Victoria sponge.  The closing dates for entries is August 28th.  Schedules and entry forms can be downloaded from the show website and can be found in Eccleshall library, Perrys the butchers and Eccleshall Animal Health.

A huge turnout of Classic Vehicles is once again expected – last year there were over 400. Tractors and lorries are also included and there is also a working display of static engines. Some of the vintage tractors will be taking a turn round the main ring during the afternoon.

With some 40 classes in the Equestrian section, secretary Fiona Fraser and her team are once again anticipating a busy day.  There are three judging rings and classes include in-hand, ridden and lead rein.  The very popular mountain and moorland breeds classes will once again be featured. New classes this year are the Lead Rein Pony Show Jumping and a class for a Rescue Horse or Pony to be shown in hand or ridden.

Other attractions around the showground include the Companion Dog Show, Trade Stands, Shopping Mall, Children’s Funfair, Punch and Judy, and Caged Birds Display.

There are plenty of places around the showground to enjoy some tasty food. The ladies of the WI will be serving teas and home-made goodies all day in their marquee near the main ring.   Eccleshall Scouts will be cooking up their delicious sausages and burgers and in the Food Arc there are a variety of international foods.  The local Red Lion Farm from Haughton are bringing their delicious Jersey Ice Cream.  There is also licenced bar and Perry’s the Butchers will be roasting a hog at lunchtime.

Entry tickets can be purchased at a discounted rate from the show website until 30th August or from main sponsor James du Pavey’s offices in Eccleshall and Stone
