The organisers of the annual Eccleshall Show are busy putting the finishing touches to their preparations for the 71st show which takes place on Saturday 1st September at Sugnall Parks.
The feature event in the main ring is a professional BMX Show where two riders will be performing the most breathtaking tricks and stunts. Also in the main ring the Lichfield Flyball Dog Team return for another year to entertain the crowds with their skills. The hugely popular Pet Dog Agility competition and Childrens Sports will also take place in the main ring.
The massive Craft and Horticulture marquee will host well over 130 classes for both adults and children. From vegetable, fruit and flower growing, to cookery, wine making, floral art, handicrafts and photography there is something for everyone to enter, including this year for the first time a men only class for a Victoria sponge. The closing dates for entries is August 29th. Schedules and entry forms can be downloaded from the show website or can be found in Eccleshall library
A huge turnout of Classic Vehicles is expected including entries from the Jaguar and Mini car clubs. Tractors and lorries are also included and in that area of the showground there is also display of static engines and large model aircraft.
With some 39 classes in the Equestrian section, secretary Fiona Fraser and her team are once again anticipating a busy day. There are three judging rings and classes include in-hand, ridden and lead rein. The very popular mountain and moorland breeds classes which were staged for the first time last year will once again be featured as will the children’s fancy dress competition.
Other attractions around the showground include the Companion Dog Show, Trade Stands, Shopping Mall, Children’s Funfair, Punch and Judy, Ferret Show and Caged Birds Display.
There are plenty of places around the showground to enjoy some tasty food. The ladies of the WI will be serving teas and home-made goodies all day, Eccleshall Scouts will be cooking up their delicious sausages and burgers and in the Food Arc there are a variety of international foods. The local Red Lion Farm from Haughton are bringing their delicious Jersey Ice Cream. There is also licenced bar and Perry’s the Butchers will be roasting a hog at lunchtime.
Show Chairman Edward Lambert commented, “We’re all set for another successful show. Having received the Queens Award for Voluntary Service earlier this year we are once again looking forward to showing the people of Eccleshall and beyond just what this dedicated team of volunteers can produce.”
Notes for Editors:
Eccleshall Show Society was founded in 1947 with the aim of providing a social event for the local community and with only one exception a show has been held every year since then. The show has expanded significantly in recent years but it remains a very traditional rural event run by an enthusiastic team of volunteers. The generosity of local sponsors helps to defray the considerable costs of staging such a show and the Society is able to donate the proceeds to local charities.
