Fancy Competing At Eccleshall Show?

23rd July 2018

Schedules for all the competitions at Eccleshall Show on September 1st are now out and you can pick one up from Eccleshall Library, Eccleshall Animal Health, Perrys the Butcher or Eccleshall and Woodseaves Post Offices. They can also be downloaded from the show’s website www.eccleshallshow.co.uk.

The massive Craft and Horticulture Marquee at the Show will stage 135 classes. From vegetable growing, cookery, flower arranging and wine making to handicrafts, art and photography, there is something for everyone to enter. A new class this year is for men only – to bake a 7” victoria sponge!

Children are especially encouraged to enter their own dedicated classes. With four different age groups, there’s a chance for the kids to show off their creative skills in modelling, vegetable growing, art, cookery and handwriting.

The popular children’s Grass Heads competition will once again be featured. Children under 15 can pick up the free Grass Heads kit from Eccleshall Library now. All that is required is that they grow, look after and decorate them in time to take them along for judging at the show. The theme this year is the end of the First World War and entries must be in place in the marquee by 08:45am.

The deadline for entries in all the classes in the Horticulture and Craft marquee is Wednesday 29th August. Anyone entering eight or more classes will receive a free entry pass. The schedule gives all these details.

With some 39 classes in the Equestrian section, secretary Fiona Fraser and her team are once again anticipating a busy day. Competitors entering before the show must do so by August 15th, but entries can also be taken on the day (£1 extra). There are three judging rings and classes include in-hand, ridden and lead rein. The very popular mountain and moorland breeds classes which were staged for the first time last year will once again be featured as will the children’s fancy dress competition.

The very popular Companion Dog Show features five pedigree and nine novelty classes and entries for these are taken on the day from 10.30 am. Judging commences at 12.30 pm. All details can be found on the show website.

Bookings for Trade Stands are coming in rapidly and anyone intersted should download the application form on the show website now.

Notes for Editors:

Eccleshall Show Society was founded in 1947 with the aim of providing a social event for the local community. The show has expanded significantly in recent years but it remains a very traditional rural event run by volunteers. The generosity of local sponsors helps to defray the considerable costs of staging such a show. Any profits are donated to local charities.
